It’s been a while since I’ve been here to share with you! Since last we spoke our acoustic album, Like Never Before: Duo Acoustic Volume One, has been released, we played a festival in May and a small album release show in Philly last week. Between that we’ve been working. Plans for many shows next year, and maybe a few out West for this Autumn. We’re in a strange time where shows really have to make sense for bands these days in order to sustain life on the road, so it takes much longer to find opportunities that are the right fit. The days of coffeeshop shows and sleeping in the van afterward are behind us.
Here are some fun memories from 2017/2018 living on the road in our van. We played over 200 shows each year and it was some of the hardest and most fun times of my life thus far.
I have been writing new songs and we’re piecing together what will become our 7th studio album. It’s taking longer than ever before this time for a few reasons. We live in a studio apartment in Philadelphia currently with little room and quiet to record, we always pay for our albums to be made from our own pockets and have to be methodical about how we go about that, and because we always want the album to matter and make an impact for us. All of this takes time and the longer we go on this road, the more thoughtful we are about the finished piece.
Before next Summer you will no doubt have an album in your ears and we’ll be riding the roads again. Life has been moving quickly these last few years and we’re just trying to slow it all down and take our time, ya know?
With that, I’d like to share the lyrics to a song I came up with on a country drive a few weeks ago. Stephen and I love to spend time driving around together, getting lost on country roads to nowhere. We call it the scenic route, no matter where we are it’s always, “let’s take the scenic route”. While he drove I thought about this and how happy we both are windows down, hair blowing, in the quiet or with favorite music gently humming us along the road. I wrote these lines reflecting on the feeling and thought it would be nice to share with you. As soon as I have a recording of the melody I’ll share that too. I’ve also written a fun piece about fashion as a form of creative expression and a way to usher in new chapters which I will likely share in the next week. As always, thank you for being here. I have some exciting things coming up and will be back soon with more on those! Happy June! xo DLT
Packing up the car
Hittin’ the road for the country
Drive around see what we can see
Dream up a life for you and me
Watch the skyscrapers turn to trees
Hair blowin’ in the breeze
Windin’ little streets
And houses filled with simple things
Grass grows long
So do the days
And the city is cleaned from my head
On big night skies I am fed
Never needed a destination
Just gas in the tank
A little direction
Bridges valleys desert mountains
Got no preference
Or miles I’m countin’
(Chorus)
You and me riding roads
Nowhere to go
No one to see
It could go on and on
Never end
How lucky we’d be
(Bridge)
Years of trails
memories to carry
Watch the sunset
Roll on down the country byway
